I admit I love Mc Donalds fried apple pies…. and these are BETTER! These pies came out DELICIOUS!!! The pie dough came out just perfect as they were golden and crunchy on the outside and moist and chewy on the inside!
– 8 ounces of dried apples or dried peaches
– 1 cup of water
– 1/3 cup of sugar
– 1 tsp of butter
– 1 tspof cinnamon or apple pie spice
– 1 can jumbo refrigerated flaky biscuits
– Vegetable oil, for frying
Combine apples and water in saucepan and bring to a boil then cover, reduce heat, and simmer until tender, about 30 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. If pieces are large, mash slightly. Stir in sugar and butter; set mixture aside.
If using fresh apples: Add 2 TBS butter to a large saute pan and melt for the filling. Add 4 peeled, cored and chopped apples, sugar, cinnamon, and 1 tsp lemon juice and cook over medium heat until the apples are soft, about 15 minutes. Remove from the heat, mashing slightly then let cool.
Roll each biscuit into a 5-inch circle on a lightly floured surface then immediately place about 1 tablespoon apple mixture on half of each biscuit circle. Dip fingers in water and moisten edges of circles to seal pies. Make sure edges are even while folding in half. Press edges firmly together to seal with a fork dipped in flour.
Pour into a heavy skillet, or a deep fryer oil to a depth of 1/2 inch. Fry pies over medium-high heat in hot oil (370°) until golden, turning once. And please make sure the biscuit is cooked completely through (Don’t rush it).
Finally, drain well on paper towels.
Makes 10 pies.
