At first glance, it looks simple.
You see a collection of pears, and your task is straightforward: count them.
But there is a catch.
When people look at a busy image filled with similar objects, the brain can sometimes make the task surprisingly difficult. Your eyes may move across the picture several times, yet you may still overlook something hiding in plain sight.
That is exactly what makes visual attention tests so entertaining.
So, are you ready?
🍐 Attention Test: Count the Pears!
Take a moment before you answer.
Look carefully at the image.
Count every pear you can find.
Don't rush. Don't simply estimate the number based on the first few objects you notice.
Instead, slow down and scan the picture methodically.
Start at the top.
Move across the image from left to right.
Then work your way down.
You might be surprised by how easy it is for your eyes to skip over an object that seems completely obvious once someone points it out!
Why Are Counting Puzzles Surprisingly Difficult?
You might think counting a group of identical objects would be almost effortless.
After all, you're simply looking for pears.
But visual attention isn't quite that simple.
When objects are similar in shape, color, and size, the brain can begin processing them as a group rather than as completely separate objects.
That can make it surprisingly easy to lose track.
You may count one pear twice.
You may skip another.
Or you may unconsciously decide you've reached the end before you've actually checked the entire image.
And that's where the challenge begins.
Don't Trust Your First Count
