1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
1 small onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp soy sauce
½ tsp thyme
Salt & pepper, to taste
For the Mashed Potatoes:
2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled & cubed
½ cup milk (or cream for extra richness)
¼ cup butter
½ cup sour cream (optional)
Salt & pepper, to taste
(Optional garnish: Fresh parsley or chives)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cook the Ground Beef
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart.
Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened (3–4 minutes).
Drain excess fat if needed.
2. Make the Gravy
Push beef to one side, melt butter in the skillet.
Whisk in flour to form a roux (1 minute).
Gradually stir in beef broth, Worcestershire, soy sauce, thyme, salt & pepper.
Simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).
3. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes
Boil potatoes in salted water until tender (15 minutes). Drain.
Mash with milk, butter, sour cream, salt & pepper until creamy.
4. Serve & Enjoy!
Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates.
Top with ground beef gravy.
